A kallitype is one of the iron processes based on the reaction of photosensitive metal salts to light. Historically the process varies, but for my prints I coat a solution of ferric oxalate and silver nitrate onto a sheet of sized 100% cotton rag paper, sandwich with a negative and expose to Ultra-violet light. I tone with the noble metals platinum and/or palladium, which replate the silver and converts it to the more precious metal. One of the most archival and stable methods of printing kallitypes, they have the permanence and appearance of a pure platinum or palladium print, and posses a wonderful glowing quality I've not seen in other processes.
