Someone was tasked with numbering all these stumps after draining the lake. Little zinc tags riveted to the stumps, not unlike the tags researchers use to track the migration patterns of animals. I’m not sure what significance this has. Most likely it’s simple cataloging or inventory. But perhaps some vague precaution against the unrest of it all. In case a stump runs upstream to spawn. The returning salmon can look in much, much worse shape than this.
