Sensory deprivation

wind-2
 Wind, Spec Rd, June 2013

When I first moved out here I found it uncomfortable to be under the darkcloth for more than a few seconds at a stretch. Peripheral noises,  imagination and general tenderfootedness could usually bring me out with a start with every little tree creak or understory rustle. Yesterday I was reminded how much I’ve been desensitized to this paranoia when, after ignoring these sort of sounds while composing these shots, I emerged to find mountain lion scat not 5 yards away. Quite fresh, judging by the overwhelming smell, and a slackjawed poke with a stick.
